I’m traveling from Illinois to Gray Summit next week. I’ll be crossing the Mississippi River on I-55 and will merge onto I-44.

For some reason, iPhone Maps is having me pass exit 40B, get off the Interstate, and then travel on city streets that merge back up on I-55/I-44.

Is I-55 exit 40B open? Sometimes I wonder about iPhone Maps.

I believe it's currently open.

Check Google Maps for detours. The route I think they're proposing is straight forward, however, so you won't be lost in the city.

Thanks for the input. I just checked Google Maps. It does show some construction in the area; but, it looks like exit 40B is open. I'll keep the iPhone Maps directions just in case though.

They may be routing you around the proposed closing of part of I-44 to take down the Grand Ave. Bridge. Inconvenient, that.

Opana is right. Wasn't it closed just last week? Or week before? Not long ago, I know.

It looks like it is closed. I looked at iPhone Maps again and it is giving me a different route. Stay on I-55 and then merge onto I-64 W, take exit 36A onto S Kingshighway Blvd, travel south for 4 miles and then merge onto I-44 W. I like this option better....I can at least remember that route.

Took the above mentioned route and it worked wonderfully.

Glad that I had looked into this though. Those information signs on the side of the road said (as I'm reading this at 80 mph), "Blah, blah, blah, I-44 closed, use alternate route".

You learn speed reading around here to stay alive. The "travel time" signs are handy. Say you've just past Manchester going south on I-270 and you see "Gravois 36 minutes". That means "get the hell of I-270." (The two spots are almost within sight of each other. )

Really? I didn't know we had such signs. But I don't drive. That is far worse than the St Louis atlas that I have. At least I am safe in my home when I read the map scale in inches and feet. So I want to know how far it is from Grant's Farm to Chesterfield and I read it in inches? Change it to feet? Can do but does it help a driver? Maybe if he knows how many feet in a mile and can divide.

Welcome to St Louis County where you drive east to go south. :-)
