Hey, I have some friends who are looking into Airbnbs to stay in the STL area. I don't know much about south city, so I was wondering if I could get some input as to how safe 9th south street is and if it is close (walking distance, short uber ride) to fun venues.

That area isn't great but close to the brewery/Soulard.

Depends on what part of 9th Street. If you are within Soulard, I wouldn't have any worries. Soulard is a decent neighborhood, with a dozens of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance. Be sure to visit the Soulard Market as well. If you are within Soulard, I wouldn't have any worries.

Do note, however, that leaving Soulard will require a car. The walk to downtown is terrible. Benton Park is the only other neighborhood that is an easy walk.. Our bus system isn't frequent, but I believe there are buses running down Arsenal and Broadway that reach Tower Grove and Downtown, respectively.

Safety. Soulard in general isn't great. A lot of petty crime in that area including car break-ins. The people I know who live there stopped locking their car doors to avoid screw driver marks and pry marks.

typical drunk crimes and thieves breaking into cars. Had friends who rented an apartment down there, each had a break in, one had three...last time the door was unlocked to not incur damage, only reason he knew someone was in the car was because the guy left a cup on the floor from like a 7/11 or something.

It's a cool area with lots of good bars and some decent restaurants. Not overtly dangerous, but that can happen anywhere.
