Yeah, downtown isn't really a family-centric neighborhood the way somewhere like The Hill or Dogtown might be.

An older guy I used to sit next to at the Blues games was a Korean War Vet. He bought his house in the 50s in Shrewsbury after the war and he and his wife raised 9 children in it. 1400 sq ft, 2 bedrooms 1 bath. Still lived there (this was in 2008-2009). Said he intended to die there.

Some of the things I love about St. Louis are:

--The St. Louis Repertory Theatre -- a real treasure for St. Louis right in close in Webster Groves
--All the big trees
--All the brick homes
--Affordable housing for a house in a charming neighborhood (compared to other similarly sized cities)
--You can get almost anywhere in 30 minutes. For a world class concert, traveling Broadway show, or anything like that, I never leave my house more than an hour before the performance starts
--An Indian summer that seems to last almost two months long
--Plenty of job opportunities due to a metro area with around 3 million people
