I wouldn't spend another minute worrying about this issue. It is your life and if an opportunity opens up, take it. Would your MIL want you to stay put and be saddled by student loans for most of your kids' development years? That is a childish complaint that you are picking sides. Life is full of choices and if a golden opportunity opens later somewhere other than St. Louis you should take that as well.
