People ask where you go to High School as well in Cincinnati, must be a midwest thing.

If you are a family looking for reasonably priced housing those might be the perfect areas for you.

To an extent it's a global thing. I grew up in a city in Australia of 2.1 million, so a bit smaller than the St. Louis metro and the high school (as well as uni aka college) questions were SO prevalent. You'd be at a nightclub and get asked it more often than any other pickup line. Same in the workplace.

Then, after responding, you usually got bombarded with "oh do you know x, y and z?".

Everyone used to joke that the city was an "oversized country town" and that instead of 6 degrees of separation, there were 3.

So, all of these issues are certainly not unique to St. Louis, or the Midwest!

For you? Maybe. For me? Never! Too many other places to live that offer better qol for someone who embraces my values. I would leave the area before living in SoCo, Jefferson or St. Charles county.

You are the one telling people to avoid those areas. They work very well for a lot of people. Different strokes.

And other areas work well for others.

Given the subject of the thread, I recommend staying away based upon my experience. If the subject was about cheap housing in a homogenous suburban location I would recommend those areas. Just don't complain about the natives and finding it difficult fitting in.

St. Charles County now has 390,000 residents and remains one of the fastest growing counties in the area.

Apparently a lot of people have no problem with the natives or fitting in there.

I doubt very much of that growth comes from outside the region (i.e., those new residents already have local social connections). But it does seem like, hypothetically, that could be a benefit.

Some of it must. There simply isn't enough population still leaving the city of St. Louis or St. Louis county to explain the continued high growth rates in St. Charles and other exurban counties.

St. Charles also has a younger population, so more kids being born.

There are certainly a non-zero amount of people from out of state moving to St. Charles, I just wonder how much of the growth is due to that, and if there's enough to claim the county is "transplant-friendly".
