I see that on average a year St. Louis gets 19.8in of snow. I understand thats a average and some years are more or less. I will be moving from Florida to St. Louis and was curious about the annual snow in St. Louis.

Are there numerous times it snows in St. Louis but no one really counts it because it is a dusting or just a inch? Because I see viewers on this forum only talk about it snowing 3-4 times a year for example and I am assuming they are talking about significant snow fall.

Any info would be helpfull Thanks

Yep they count those slight dustings where it might snow an inch and a half overnight and it will all be melted by noon. It really doesn't snow that much here. I'd estimate 3-4 significant snowfalls is correct, and usually only 1-2 that close down all the schools in the area.

This post kind of made my day. The most unpleasant aspect of me moving away from the desert southwest, after traffic, is weather, cold humid weather, especially. I was expecting an answer along the lines of what I used to experience in New Jersey, much more snow than what you claim to experience in St.Louis. I wonder why that is. Chicago, for instance, is only 4 hours away, right? Or Des Moines, which also has pretty brutal winters, is not far away either. Yet, the winter is that much more mild in St.Louis?

I grew up in Chicago and the winters there were always far worse than here. It's amazing what a difference it makes to be 5 hours southwest of there. Here, I have a shovel and rarely need to use it. National Weather Service says average snowfall there is 38"--almost twice as much as St Louis.

Default thank you for ur response

I appreciate the response. I see that is does snow there often but little accumulation or it melts by the next day, and usually 3-4 big snow days a year.
Thanks

Yup I traveled to Milwaukee quite a bit and it's amazing how much of a difference the temperatures and climate can be, especially during fall/winter. My friends further up north always tell me how snow stays on the ground and doesn't melt for pretty much the entire winter it seems like.

I actually don't mind winter because I love snow, but I cannot stand the gloomy days.

Neither can I! I get about 300 clear sunny days, each day of the year here. I remember the gloomy days of the northeast, and it's going to be difficult to re-acclimate that aspect of my being.

I found some statistics from 2001, 2002, and 2003, and all of those years St. Louis had around 100 clear days per year. Going to be quite a change for you
