Hello. Looking to build a custom home on a few acres. Curious if anyone has a feel for the cost in terms of price per square foot. Obviously, finishes can drive the cost as well as other factors like acreage, garage, etc. But relative to existing homes for sale which are typically in the range of 140 to 200 dollars per square foot, I am wondering if the cost would typically exceed $200/sq ft and may be closer to $250/sq ft. Any feedback would be appreciated.

That's tough to answer given the variation in land values in St. Charles County. Are you looking in Elsberry, Wentzville, Defiance, West Alton? I could probably come up with a different answer for each one.

Thanks HowardTeam. I should have mentioned the area is in Augusta, MO. Trying to understand a good rule of thumb. The house would not be high end, but fair to say not fiberglass inserts or Formica countertops. Tile, wood floors, granite contertoos. Also, a 10 ft pour, unfinished basement, and Hardie board, not vinyl. Any comments much appreciated.

Whatever your budget is, you will probably always end up going beyond it.
I think $200 is a conservative figure in this day n age.

Interested in this as well. Taking out cost of land, what is the general view on construction cost, in terms of $/sqft, for a very generic build?
