My partner and I currently rent a duplex for $845 per month in the Tower Grove South neighborhood. We have four cats and one dog. I would love to try living in a more spacious/rural area. I currently work from home and my partner commutes to Maplewood to work every day at 6am-2pm (not during rush hour).

We are looking to rent a house for under $1,200 that will allow our pets and has a nice outdoor area. I would like to have a good outdoor space to have a table and chairs and perhaps a fire pit. There are hardly any options. We are saving to buy a house in the future.

I am thinking Arnold, past Fenton, Wildwood (I actually did see a really cheap house for rent there before). I have been checking Zillow religiously and also Facebook Marketplace, Realtor.com, forrent.com, Craigslist... Not much available. There was a nice house it Dittmer but it got rented before we got to see it :/

Just wondering on anyone's thoughts/opinions. No one seems to understand my desire to live in a rural area where there is more nature, space, peace; I am an introvert and would love living out of the city I feel. If it weren't for my partner's job I would want to move further out.

Well...I guess you could try Pacific, Washington, St. Clair, Eureka, and Union. All of them along the Hwy 44 corridor. I'm not sure it's within 45 minutes though. BUT it might be.

Those are all good suggestions in Franklin County and mostly a straight shot out 44 except Union and Washington. Those would definitely be an hour or more.

I'd consider Jefferson County too. It will be hard to stay under 45 minutes - maybe on days when there are no traffic issues.

I guess it depends on what is most important to you.

Maybe Valley Park?

Valley Park is much more small town in nature but it is squarely in St. Louis County which was one of the conditions: not in St. Louis County.

Well...it's going to be hard to find a place outside St. Louis county, and yet be 45 minutes to Maplewood.

For rural spots...

I'd look at JeffCo along Rt 30, Collinsville, and Maryville.

West County and St. Charles County have rural areas that are within 45 minutes of Maplewood, but not within your budget.
