Hello, my company has a facility in Earth City. I am currently at their Grand Prairie, TX facility. I grew up ion the midwest (Northern Illinois), and would like to return to these parts. Although I have no interest in being in Illinois. Mainly what I am interested is rental housing. I have a few cats, and I need to live in an area that is not urban. I would like to rent a house that has a nice yard with trees, and room to breathe. I am just now starting my research. My initial impression is that Earth City isn't a town, but a sprawling hub for various companies. In which case, I would probably want to live somewhere else and commute. I see St. Charles is just on the other side of the river. I looked around St. Charles via Google Street View, and it seems to have the type of environment I am looking for. Your thoughts are appreciated, especially as it relates to housing availablilty and cost of living. Thank you!

Hello! I work in Earth City. Earth City is an industrial park, so you're right...there's nothing residential in Earth City.

Places you might want to consider;

St. Charles
St. Peters
O'Fallon
Wentzville
Bridgeton
Maryland Heights
Creve Coeur
Florissant
Hazelwood

The OP asked about the “environment” of Earth City. It primarily consists of warehouses, distribution centers, offices and light industrial. There are a couple hotels, a few fast food places, and a couple gas stations. That’s about it. The only possible “residents” there might be a few people living in an extended-stay hotel. Earth City contains a system of connected lakes, which attract a variety of wildlife.
The stretch of Interstate 70 that runs along the south end of Earth City is notorious for traffic backups. Too, the nearby I-70/I-270 interchange is the most heavily used intersection in the state of Missouri. I want to point these things out because getting to and from the Earth City Expressway via I-70 can be a real headache. But there’s an alternative: The north end of the Earth City Expressway connects to the far less-traveled Route 370, a pleasant limited-access freeway that links to St. Charles on the west and Hazelwood on the east. If I worked in Earth City, I’d prefer to enter and leave from this north access.

You have it right. St. Charles sounds like a good fit and not far.

My company has a service center in Earth City that I worked at for many years. I still work for the same company, but for the last two years have worked from home full time and my office space is no longer there (if I go in, I use a hoteling cube now).

SnazzyB and 1greatcity's posts are right on about places to live nearby and the description of Earth City. The Earth City area also has a nearby landfill (stinky) - a good reason for housing being a little further away, an amphitheater across from that, and a Casino complex. Much of earth city is also in a flood plain with a 500-year levee I believe.

People who work at my company work all over the St. Louis metro region (you name the suburb and we have someone living there who works in Earth City) with perhaps the greatest concentrations living in St. Charles which is super close, so MUTGR is right on, on that sounding like a good fit. I think that would probably be good places to look for rental homes.

I live in Glendale (Kirkwood zip code) that is quite a bit east and a closer in suburb to St. Louis. My 18 1/2 mile commute in the morning took about 25 minutes door to desk and about 35 minutes to get home because of city traffic. Commute times were pre-covid. I believe traffic is still a little lighter with more people working from home still than pre-Covid.

My son lives in an apartment in Creve Coeur. I know you are looking for a rental home not an apartment, but FYI there are lots of nice apartment complexes there. I know his apartment complex even has a dog park.

There are many good areas that I consider a reasonable commute to Earth City

Creve Coeur
Maryland Heights
There is also a spot between Creve Coeur and Maryland Heights that's not incorporated (Westport Plaza area) with some residential options, not too bad.
I also like Manchester and Ballwin areas.

If you don't mind driving, consider Brentwood/Kirkwood areas.

Earth City has some hotels. I stayed there for business and car windows were smashed (the row I parked in was spared). Overall, I try to avoid Earth City area whenever I'm in town for work.
