Hi.
I will be driving through St Louis from Wisconsin on the 70 and 44 and just sleeping for the night in St. Louis. I am looking for a basic, cheap and safe place to stay, on the west side of Mississippi. Any recommendations for a hotel?
I found Forest Park Hotel on Wilson Avenue and OYO Hotel St. Louis Downtown City Center on 14th Street. Are these in good areas?
Thank you!

There’s a Drury Inn 0.1 miles from Forest Park hotel and it would have a better reputation. They also have other locations. (Breakfast is included)

Where are you headed the next day? You can pick up 44 from downtown, so anywhere downtown is fine. Also, if you are heading SW on 44, even hotels along 64/40 would be okay because you can cut over at 270 South.

The areas mentioned are safe.

If you don't mind being by the airport, I would recommend the Pear Tree Inn at the St Louis Airport. It is not actually on the Airport grounds, but it is right off of I 70. Even if you don't want to go through downtown if you are continuing due east or northeast, you can just head west on 70 and north on 170 to pick up 270 to proceed eastbound. I stayed there over Thanksgiving weekend, and it was nice, clean basic lodging with a good free breakfast.

From the local hotel market, would most definitely recommend the Drury brand! Free breakfast, Wi-Fi, and a happy hour from 5:30-7:00pm that includes snacks, small dinner, salads, nachos, and 3 free drinks (beer, wine, and a couple mixed drinks). Stay at their properties all the time when traveling…and they’re all over the St. Louis region, with two directly off I-44 near 141 and one a bit further West….several downtown…One in St. Charles (streets of St. Charles - which is a great location) and the airport location. Pear Tree Inn’s are also owned by the Drury family, but don’t believe they give the 5:30 happy hour, but they do have breakfast included, and offer a bigger value as they’re considered a more budget friendly brand (they’re old drury buildings/properties)

The OP is looking for "cheap", and I don't think $175-$200 a night quite fits that. Check out the Best Western Plus near the airport (and the traveled route) for a nice room/property at around $110 which includes breakfast. https://www.bestwestern.com/en_US/bo...d-59c63380b2ac

I think both of those are fine. If you’d rather be in the suburbs…this one is right off of 44. I ditto others that the free breakfast and happy hour are key with Drury.
