I'm not sure what field you're in but I have a hunch I know which company you might be looking at. If it is the same company, then you'd be right at home with your interests. If not, I can still offer advice. Living near old town would be good for you. Lindenwood University isn't too far away and as a result, Old Town St. Charles has added new bars and has a younger crowd attending often. During the 9-5 Main St. is full of shoppers, diners and employees. After hours there is a light bar scene. You won't find crazy table dancing but you can go to bars. Also, the Ameristar Casino down the way has added party place for 20-somethings which is becoming popular. If you want a fun time, you can also just hop across the river. For housing, you can rent right on Main St. above other dwellings or you can head up towards 2nd Street for a little shabbier dwelling but much better prices. Homes tend to be North of 3rd St. and several are rentals too. It's a nice area with a lot of history. My husband's company in St. Charles has sponsored bike rides on the Katy Trail and offers discounts at the local m on the same road. They have a lot of people go walk or run the Trail during the lunch break and the hills through Old Town offer a nice inclined walking experience too. A lot of sidewalks to walk on.

Thanks for the info. The trail is a big draw for me. I'm spoiled by the running trails in Austin and probably wouldn't move somewhere unless they have a few good places to run on. Its gravel surfaced in St. Charles, right? I love running on gravel...much easier on the knees and feet than running on concrete sidewalks. I'm not usually big on the table-dancing style nightlife, but I suppose if I get in the mood I can just head down to the Landing.
Assuming I get job offers from both companies (who knows with the economy the way it is) I'll probably be torn between St. Charles and Portland. The STL area would be great for the low cost of living, close proximity to my family and the Ozarks, and I do miss living in Missouri fairly often. However, if everything I hear about Portland is true (I still need to visit), it does seem like a pretty awesome place to live...but I'd be a long ways from family, and have to pay around $100k more for a house.
