I'm not surprised. I can't believe rent in some of the best parts of the city (CWE, downtown lofts, Soulard, U City, etc) is around $600-800 for a decent 1-2 bedroom apartment. That's about where rent starts in the ghetto apartments of Orlando.

Which is even more supprising due to the fact that most employers there pay $6/hr.

Yep.. I have no idea how so many people afford $700+ apartments in Orlando. I'm guessing they scrape every nickel toward rent instead of enjoying life. I've lived in them here, and I can assure you the neighbors aren't the "sort" of person who's renting a $700 apartment in CWE.

Most live in a poverty state, I would say probably 60% get some kind of government funding. The poor state that's going on in Florida and has been going on for over a decade is the reason I left.

I'm doing just fine as a software engineer here, but I agree with you.. I'm leaving for STL within the next 18 months. I grew up and went to school in Florida, and I can't believe the direction so much of the state has taken.
