Hi all,

SLU law school has become one of my top three choices and I was looking for advice on neighborhoods in the city. I have a car and wouldn't mind a mild commute. I think I'd lean towards living in the city vs. the burbs and am concerned chiefly with safety. I've heard the area near SLU is real touch and go.

Any thoughts on neighborhoods that I would be safe making late night commutes to and from school would be appreciated. I've read very mixed reviews from a variety of websites about the Central West End. I'm also curious about Soulard, especially it's distance from the law school.

Any info on ANY neighborhoods and their quirks would be greatly appreciated.

Will

Will,
Check out Dogtown, St. Louis Hills, or the "Hill" neighborhood...I lived in Dogtown. It is close to the highway 40 & 44 and about 10 mins or less to SLU. These are safe neighborhoods with local restaurants and great festivities especially in Dogtown for St. Patrick's Day. The housing or rentals are also affordable. I can answer any real estate question that you may have. I hope this helps.

Your options increase a lot by having a car and not minding a 5-10 minute drive. SLU itself is very safe, as is its immediate surrounding areas off campus. Since you will be studying a lot, living on or near's SLU's campus is perfectly fine. Make sure you contact SLU housing for referrals.

If you venture off campus, I would recommend the Central West End for its proximity, resources, and its abundance of people similar to you. There are many others with an under 15 minute drive. CWE is less than two miles from SLU, as is downtown Stl. Tack on a few more for Soulard and South City.

There are many threads on here about neighborhoods.

No I didn't, obviously. I never understand why someone would dig up really old posts and threads to comment on them.

I think it's because people find the site on google when they search for stuff and don't realize how old it is. Hope my teasing didn't make you sad -- it's all in good fun
