I just accepted a contract to hire position in Maryland Heights. If the company wants to hire me after I've worked there for 3 mos., they'll put me on the payroll. My question is, what would you guys suggest I stay for 3 mos. in the depths of a terrible MO winter?

I'm used to being on the nice side of town here in MS. Since this is temporary (my house is on the market here), let's try to keep the expenses down but at the same time I would like be safe.

Also, I have a 2004 Pontiac GTO, a sporty little ride that is not used to snow. I won't have to bust through any drifts in it will I? Are icy roads a factor at any point?

Thanks,
Brett

I wouldn't worry too much about having to bust through snow drifts, but the salt they put down can cause damage underneath the car over time. And I wouldn't think Maryland Heights would be too bad, but I can't tell you about specific areas.

Sorry I can't give you more details.

Thanks anyway. Is there a need for snow tires or chains?

Snow tires are a good idea... is your car front-wheel drive? If so, you should be fine; rear wheel wouild be an entirely different story.

What are you looking for in a place to live? City, country or suburbs? What is your budget? If you share that we can probably offer you better help.

Rear drive pontiac gto. performance tires on it, not snow tires. I found a suite a mile and a half from where i'll be working at $44.99 a night. it got good reviews but i'll see how it is.

Had a friend with a real-wheel drive camaro -- he crashed several times in the winter because rear wheels have notorious problems with traction in the snow.

So my advice? Live close to work, practice and be careful!

Dayum. That's what I was afraid of. Luckily, the place I'm staying is a mile and a half from work.

Thanks for the link!

Maryland Heights is an upper middle class area of St. Louis. You should have NO problem out there. (I worked in one of the hotels out there for a couple of years.)

I would assume that at $44/night, you are staying at the Studio Plus or the Extended Stay America property near Westport.

If you are willing to change propertiers, you might be able to do better using Hotwire or Priceline.

Those 2 quoted me $35 per night but after reading some reviews I saw from Dr. Google, I declined and found a much nicer place (reviews were much better!) for only $10 more per night. My lucky day I guess.

Thanks for the info.
