That's funny considering how many companies are located in this area and how large the traffic volume in this city is. The St. Louis metro overall is a hustling, bustling, working area. Compared to the Northeast/Bos-Wash corridor and to very big cities like Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston, I would probably agree to it being laid back. It's about as laid back as a city its size should be.

I hate the Illinois drivers driving in the passing lane (left lane) on the highways

I'm from up by Chicago originally, so my opinions reflect that.

1. Too much obsession with Cardinal baseball instead of the other sports teams, led alone, collegiate sports.

2. The social life here seems to revolve around going to casinos or Cardinal games.

3. The obsession with summer float trips.

4. The "Where did you go to high school?" question.

5. The general, non-cosmopolitan feel/reputation of the area.

6. Even though it really is of no use to me, personally: The lack of quality hotels around the airport. (This always struck me as being very different from other similar-sized cities and doesn't really do St. Louis justice when I think about it).

Other than that, I think the St. Louis area is a great place to be for the most part.

1. I have found college level sports to be VERY popular in St. Louis -- perhaps you just miss Big 10 action? Are you a Michigan grad? :P

3. At least there is some lovely countryside outside of St. Louis -- until you get hours upon hours away from Chicago it's nothing but flat cornfields -- YUCK!

6. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 four-star offerings near the airport -- Renaissance Grand, Mariott and Hilton as well as the very nice 3-star Drury Inn -- What have you found lacking exactly?

Rude yes... fast paced? nah.. at least not that i've seen anyone say. Perhaps tho.. KC is laid back and not fast paced at all... and the roads system is built to well to really have much aggressive drivers.

But yeah, lots of rude people, tho the rudest i've ever met is in Miami... but STL has the most racist people i've ever seen and what appears to at least the outsider that I am to have a huge racial divide.

^^ Yes, several people did say that including this quote:

I have found STL drivers to be more aggressive in that respect and in rudeness while driving, quick with the profanity and fingers!

LOL... weird, I guess after driving in Miami and Chicago I just don't think anything of it.... never had problems with drivers in STL.

Miami on the other hand... man... there is no point to having a horn since they are going off every 20 seconds... it just becomes background noise.

Oh I heartily agree that St. Louis drivers aren't that bad -- a couple years in Chicago will harden you up right quick I suspect.

Well by "quality" I am considering the area these hotels are in, if that makes sense. I was trying to not offend too much here.....ah.....the hotels may be "quality"....but to be perfectly honest they are also located in questionable areas at best. In my opinion, that automatically lowers the quality. I believe you're taking a risk just by staying at these hotels because of the area they are in and many people from out of town feel the same way. They won't stay at these hotels no matter how good the "quality" is because of the reputation of the area these hotels are in. I could be paranoid, but that's the general feeling I get.

As far as college sports being popular...I'm sorry I just don't see much. I see attention being paid to Mizzou football when they are actually doing well or maybe Mizzou basketball, but the overall college sports focus seems to be lacking. What little coverage given to collegiate sports is usually solely focused on Mizzou. The local sports channels don't seem to offer state or local collegiate sports event coverage like other markets do. The Mizzou football team had a good year last year so they actually did up the coverage a bit, but only because the team was doing well. It really isn't that important to me anyway haha, but it's just a little pet peeve of mine.
