Chicago native working in belleville IL but want to live downtown st. louis as i plan to take the train back to chicago every week.

which neighbourhood should i consider living in? ideally i would like it to be close to the train station but no more than a 20 min drive to belleville.

any suggestions?

Sounds like downtown, particularly on Washington is what you're looking for. The near-southside neighborhoods of Soulard, Lafayette Square, and Benton park would be good as well if you didn't want a loft. These are all urban neighborhoods that are walkable and have great amentities.

The advantage to living along Washington is that, for driving to Belleville, you can go east down Washington straight onto the Eads Bridge, and then take Route 15 to Belleville. You'll drive through an older urban area, but we frequently take that route. You'll miss the traffic mess sometimes found on the Poplar St. Bridge.

I will also recommend Washington Ave or Soulard. Check both out and choose which one best suits you.
