Thank you, ShadowCaver for this thread. Gave me several ideas for a few day trips to the city for my DH and myself. Thanks again.

we are staying at the Hampton Inn at the arch. How far are we from the zoo? Also we have 3 small kids do you think going in the arch is worth it? We also need a good place to eat dinner. Thanks for all your help. We will coming June 23.

Approx. 15-20 minute drive from that Hampton area to the Zoo - ~7 miles... interested in driving, walking, taxi, or metrolink?

How small is small? Add 'em together do you get much more out of 'em?

Dinner - price range, type/style of vittles, and what defines "good" - good Red Lobster, good Cracker Barrel, good Ruth's Chris, or good local place? Seafood restaurant - Bristol and the Sidney Street Cafe have high marks, for example... but seriously, depends on budget and tastes.

Riding in the arch is scary, but I think it's a good experience.
There are plenty of good restaurants in St. Louis area. Depends on what cuisine you like.
For Italian, go to the Hill. St. Louis Fine Restaurant Guide - The Hill

Enjoy your stay.

I do not think of riding in the ARCH as scary When I was young, at was taken back a bit at first when the tram 'aligned' itself for the ascent, but it was fine after the first occurance. I do not like to go up in the tram with strangers .. especially those with bad hygeine. Small compartments for extended periods of time, I am sure you can smell where I am coming from

I rode the arch with a local girl in 1990. Two others were in the Arch car with us and said they were from N Dakota. My girl gave a knowing smile and was clearly biting her tongue. At the top I asked her what was the joke.
She said she wanted to ask, with half the ND population in the Arch, where were the other two ?
No we did not get married.....I went one step worse, I married a girl from Iowa. Idiots Out Wandering Around.
Thats a Missouri joke.
