Paul McKee's plans for North St. Louis (violent crime, houses)

Scary. Even if this project works, I have a hard time overlooking McKee's destruction of historic homes across North STL the last few years, and it sounds like more destruction to come. Why couldn't he have incorporated these homes he destroyed into his residential plans?

I hope his plan fails. He has destroyed houses that could of been saved, just sohe can get the area declared blighted. He has bought homes, kicked out the tennants, left windows open and unboarded to let the elements in. Provided havens for drugs, prostitution, and violent crime, and supported brick rustling. that clemens mansion was beautiful. Man that is unforgivable. His plan better be damn good. I'm not sure his plan is the best plan for revitalizing North St. Louis. I hope it succeeds though and the residents there are better off for it. Geez, the Clemens Mansion though

Why do I have the feeling that the JeffVanderLou and St. Louis Place neighborhoods are gonna look like Winghaven/NewTown in 15 years when McKee is done with his plan?

I have a feeling that most of the current residents will not be living there when this is done. They will be priced out of the area and replaced by (mostly) white, upper middle class folks from the 'burbs.

I'm not going to pretend I know how the makeup of the northside will look in the next 15 years but I hope it has a good mix of incomes and races.

Right now, white upper middle class folks from the suburbs hate the city. When you say white upper middle class I think a 50 year old white guy. He's a baby boomer and there is some generational way of thinking with them where they hate the city.

I expect the northside to get richer in its per capita income but I think it'll be young families moving into the city or young families being started in the city. Even before that happens schools have to be up to snuff.

Mckee's plan is suppose to create 22,000 jobs hopefully it creates a lot of work and opportunity for people already in the northside so it can begin to stabalize. McKee is involved in the potential china hub so warehousing or something of the sort is possible. That really doesn't require a college degree, so hopefully the more poor off people on the northside get the preference instead of being shipped off to cater to others.

- Income: $25,000 or less, 5.3%; $25,001-$35,000, 5.3%; $35,001-$50,000, 15.5%; $50,001-$75,000, 18.7%; $75,001-$100,000, 18.2%; $100,001-$200,000, 28.7%; $200,000+, 8.5%;
- Education: Some high school, 0.2%; High School graduate, 3.0%; Some college, 17.0%; College Graduate, 41.6%; Some post Graduate work, 12.8%; Post Graduate degree, 25.5%

I know McKee is doing a lot to get the China Hub deal here, but I'll have a hard time forgiving him for destroying North St. Louis in what he claims is an attempt to "save it" (my words not his).

^ true absolutely, he has a lot of things to do to win me back for destroying so much, but I do hope he succeeds otherwise its all for not.

Is downtown the most diverse? What's the population downtown?
