Many of you seem very knowledgeable of the STL area. My family and I are headed up there for a 5 day visit beginning June 14th and I am in search of an affordable hotel stay. I am not interested in a swanky place or many amenities, ect. The purpose of our visit is for my husband to locate a job and to look for a place to live so we will not be spending hardly any time in the room itself. As long as it is clean and in a safe area is all that really matters. It will be myself and our three young children ages 6, 7 and 8. Thanks for your help!

First off - welcome to the area... Depending on where he will be looking, there are many hotels in different sections that might be closer to his search - do you have idea as to what general parts of the city, or is this all over the place? First suggestion, in any case, would be somewhere convenient to major arteries; one such would be the hotels right off of I-44 near Fenton and Peerless Park area, specifically exits 272 [HWY 141] or 274 [Bowles Ave]... few nice hotels there, also some places to grab fast food, and convenient to I-44 - head east, and have access to I-270 if need. Just a bit further east on I-44, exit 277 [Kirkwood/Lindbergh] is another area. If desire more north, there are a quite a few hotels of off I-270 - Olive, Page, etc... depending on where yas would rather be. These would be the Holiday Inns, Hamptons, Drury, etc. style hotels. But again, depends a lot on what area he's going to be looking PLUS what area yas would rather live... as imagine spending time doing otherwise than driving is better. Good luck - let us know more details, so can narrow down areas for yas.

Thanks for the welcome! We have been looking around the South County area as far as possible housing locations. My husband is a truck driver so we are open there as far as physical locations of his employer. He has been contacted by a few prospects out of Belleville and the surrounding towns on the IL side also. I am more familiar with the South County area but have though of looking in Belleville for housing as well. I just do not know how safe the area is or if they have a school district that is comparable to the Lindbergh/Oakville districts. Your input is appreciated!!

As far as south county, there seem to be fairly cheap hotels in Fenton and Festus (like Motel 6, Days Inn, etc.). Fenton is closer to the city obviously.

Priceline you can make a bid and it'll pick a hotel for you. Mom got the Hyatt Regency for $50/night that way.
