At age 23, I'd be looking in the city. I'm 24 and my wife is 22 with a 2 year old and we have never regretted it. We are in Dogtown (63139)

As you may know, the St. Louis city schools are not very good, and are probably out of the question for most residents with kids. I've heard good things about some of the city's magnet schools. If you start a separate post on that, you'd be able to get better feedback. There are some independent schools, but they're very pricy. That leaves the parocial schools (Catholic, Lutheran, a few Baptist), averaging around 4K per student, per year....discounts if you are member. Most of the schools are open to students regardless of their religious background.

I'm going to be putting my son in a magnet. I live in a neighborhood with 2 so he should be able to get in to one of them. Since 2006 there has been a 100% neighborhood placement rates in the SLPS for magnets.
