I will be moving to St. Louis from North Dakota to start grad school at SLU this fall. I previously visited for an apartment search which proved to be unsuccessful and as a result, I am doing some last minute searching. I am now looking into living in a complex just south of the SLU Medical campus on South Grand across the street from Compton Hill Reservoir Park.

How safe is this area? Especially if I ever have to take the bus or bike from the main SLU campus at night (9-10ish)? Do you think I will run into any major problems?

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

It is NOT one of the best areas on the South Side. However, you should not have too many problems in that area. I used to work in the hospital that is now the Eye Center at I-44 and Grand Ave..

Personally, I would take the bus south on Grand Ave, in the evening rather than driving.

I don't agree with the taking the bus at night as opposed to driving. There are a lot of sketchy characters that ride the Metrolink and city buses in general. Try to avoid both and just take your own car. Lock the doors. I've never had a problem on Grand Blvd. in a car.

Cars are definitely safer over public transport IMO. I'm not sure how anyone could come to any other conclusion. The people riding the bus are the criminals lol

I just pm'ed you back but I didnt realize you are going to the med school. Thats a direction I generally never head. I've been there a few times and it seemed ok. Look into The Saum and Hutchineson Arms properties
