I will be moving to St. Louis for graduate school sometime around next August. I am 25y/o male, single looking for a quiet, safe neighborhood that is relatively affordable and close to Wash U. I have received previous suggestions for Demun, Clayton (the Moorlands too), Skinker-Debaliviere, and Debaliviere Place. I would like to be able to find a 2BR so I can have an office (or a 1BR with den or something) and am slightly more concerned with safety/quiet than distance to Wash U. For instance, if Demun is .5 miles and Debaliviere is 1 or 1.5 miles but a better fit that's fine. Just looking for some further advice on what to look for...what areas to avoid, what areas are the best and so on... Thanks

Choose DeMunn over Debaliviere -- lots of crime/car break-ins occur there where as DeMun is more family friendly and has the Concordia Seminary occupying a huge space.

If you dont leave anything in your car you should have no problem with your car being broken into. If you have a club it's that much safer.

Thanks for the advice, I have heard that Demun is generally much nicer than debaliviere, though a little more expensive. Does anyone have any experience with Phillip H. Barron Realty? I have heard mixed things about it but their apartments sure look pretty nice. If anyone has any recommendations of management companies to check out please let me know thanks...

I wouldn't say Demun is necessarily nicer. Debaliviere is a GREAT place to live. Both neighborhoods are excellent choices to live as a WU student. Debaliviere is much closer to metrolink. Car break-ins are typical for any college area and most urban areas.

Demun is fine. Wash U. also has housing in Univeristy City. You should check their apartments out as well, as they are in walking distance to campus. I would also suggest checking out the apartments in University City and Clayton more generally. The apartments in Clayton will be more expensive. However, University City should have some apts that fit your needs. Just get a real estate agent to take you around to different apts.

I'd have to imagine that it would be fun living in either area while attending the university. As someone stated, DeB would be closer to the metro stop. However, from your OP, I'd say Demun. Either is fine though, seriously.
