I have never posted here before, and I've never been to St.Louis, other than an airport layover, in my life. That will change on April 5th. I will be in St. Louis for a job interview with the NGA (National Geospatial Agency) the following day. Not knowing where this agency is, in proximity to the airport, can anyone recommend a fairly priced hotel that is convenient to both areas, and perhaps an interesting, regional cuisine restaurant for dinner, the night before?

Thanks,
Mike

I want to say it's by the riverfront, south 2nd street, south of the Gateway Arch. I think there is another location in Arnold, which looks to be about 15 miles south. But I think it's in the south 2nd street location.

You have a lot of options. First of all, you can get on the metrolink at the airport and ride downtown. Just ask the hotel what metrolink stop they are closest to. There is the Hilton Ballpark (next door to Busch stadium) Drury Inn downtown,Hampton Inn Gateway Arch, Millenium Hotel, Renaissance Grand, St Louis Union Station Marriot are the first ones that come to mind.
As for dining, you have several options:
The Landing: Drunken Fish (Sushi), Morgan Street Brewery (American Fare), Joey B's and several restaurants in Lumiere Casino. There are many more, these are my personal choices.

Washington Avenue: Mosiac (my favorite), Over/Under (Sports Bar), Flannerys, Lucas Park Grille are just a few that come to mind

Other Great dining downtown: Bridge Tap House, Mike Shannons, Rooster (my favorite for breakfast), Schlafly Tap Room (St Louis microbrewery)

A good friend of mine works for NGA downtown and really enjoys it. Good luck with your interview. I second Schlafly--very popular beer in St Louis and the food is pretty delicious too.

So far, you've been given several good suggestions for hotels and dining downtown. But you did say that you're not entirely sure if you'll be located downtown or in Arnold, and you were asking what's in between. Well, near the I-55 and I-270/I-255 interchange in South County, there's a Holiday Inn and Motel 6. Restaurants include local favorites like Tucker's Place, Malone's, Uncle Bill's, Rizzo's, and Rich & Charlie's. This is also a major shopping area, with South County Mall and numerous big-box stores. But I hope you end up downtown, because there's much more to see and due than in the suburbs.

Update: I am staying at Hyatt Gateway Arch, and my interview is around the corner, at the Sheraton. I am taking a shuttle (no car) and am scheduled to arrive at 8:10 pm. That gives me only enough time to check in, and walk to a restaurant within proximity to the Arch. My interview is the following morning, at 8:45 at the Sheraton.

I really hope I get this position: it's been my dream job for almost 2 years. I might be more active in this forum in the next 6 months if I am offered the position, since relocation is a strong certainty.

Many thanks to all of you who took enough time to answer. I very much appreciate all your feedback.

Is Schafly walkable from Chestnut St?

I've looked at Over/Under and Joey B's, and both seem to be appealing as well. The others seem to be closed on Monday.

It's been so long since I've been in a city (San Diego last year was the last time) of significance. I am really jazzed up about it.

Good Luck on your interview, Schlafly is not within walking distance.

If you want to explore all of downtown, and get to Schlafly, the bus is a good option. In particular the downtown circular bus. Just look for the ones that say "Downtown Circular" on it. All it does is loop around the various spots downtown and I am sure there is a stop close to the Schlafly Tap Room. Good luck on your interview.
