As I've posted before, I am thinking about relo'ing to STL. Just as backstory, I have been to the city dozens of times, but my trips have always been the same: fly into lambert, taxi to downtown hotel down I-70, conduct business downtown, dinner downtown, back to downtown hotel, taxi back to lambert on I-70 and fly out. So while I've spent probably 2 months+ in STL, I've only been downtown.

Well I have a business trip next week and am going to take a day to check out the area. I am staying out by the airport and will have a rental car, a day to myself and a GPS. I could really use some reccomendations on what part of the metro area to check out. I am trying to get a better flavor for the area beyond my narrow experience and check out some places my wife and I may consider living if we make the move. I am looking for:

- middle to upper middle class suburb
- Good public schools
- <30 minutes to downtown, maybe 45 if some place is really worth it
- Newer construction (nice to have, not gotta have)
- Kid friendly area, lots of parks, young families

Where should I go? What residential areas should I check out? Any reccomended routings/itinerary?

Lastly - I've read some good things about Lake St Louis & O Fallon, how far are these from downtown commute wise? Thanks!
Many areas cover your interests. If you would add a bit more to your interests and or needs it could narrow it down a little bit more.

Very few areas are longer than 30-45 minutes in the area. The two you mentioned are at the top of that range. Newer to new construction would also be near the top of that geographical range unless it was a tear down. There are lots of good school districts and parks etc..kid and family friendly areas, so that would cover a lot of places.

Yep, that looks like a great place. What really draws me to it is the fact that there are more people living below the poverty level then with high school diplomas...
