Another Pizza Thread

NY style pizza is difficult to find, if it exists at all in Saint Louis.

The locals will tell you about all these great places, and some will even steer you to IMOs or some other establishment that makes the horrid concoction known as "Saint Louis Style" Pizza.

I'ved tried Feraros, Raccanellis and a whole slew of others. No luck.

The closest I found was Lake Saint Louis Pizza. But they packed up shop and moved because has the owner put it "the locals don't know what pizza should taste like"

St Louis has a lot of great pizza joints. Try Feraros, Racanelli's, Bridge and Tunnel, Onesto, Maurizo's, and Vitos, just to name a few.

Pizzarelli's in Ellisville, Racanelli's in Kirkwood, and Bridge & Tunnel Pizza in downtown St Louis. (Note: there's some disagreement whether B&T is actually "New York Style".)
There's also Feraro's Jersey Style Pizza in Soulard. Some people see no difference between New York Style and Jersey Style... but Jersey Style is said to be slightly thicker and has a sweeter sauce.

Raccanelli's is NY style and it's chain. There are many all over. Feraro's is "Jersey" style.

Racanelli's and B&T are. Feraro's is NJ style. Vitos is probably more sicilian.

Finally someone asking about some good pizza, St. Louis pizza is good but not filling, NY is both good and filling. I cannot stand that gross stuff that Chicagoans call pizza, burnt on the edges, cold in the middle, and if I wanted a loaf of bread with a pizza on top of it, I would get one.

Nothing around here tastes like real NY/NJ style (there is no real difference between the two, until you get past Princeton and the Pizza begins to get a bit more Philadelphia in Nature with a slightly thicker crust and a sweeter sauce, still very good)

You start off with hand thrown crust which the water quality is important (most NYC water comes from the Catskill mountains, and most water to the NY Metro region comes from the same aquifer). The crust has to be thin and foldable. The sauce (gravy) is slightly sweet and a bit oily.

You will know a real NY pie when you taste one.
