Broadway at Prairie, we see this sign

The most recent ad I have seen a date for is circa 1910. I can't seem to find more info.

Here is the old Street View, you see a two-story brick building, LRA owned, with busted out windows.

Here is the view now.

The ad is in remarkably good shape, I guess because that other building was up against it for so long. I hope this ghost sign is well-documented, and preserved as much as it can be, even if the company was not necessarily ethical in their advertisements (seen in the stereotyped African Americans in the ads).

The building's address is 5010 N BROADWAY and it's owned by
Owner name: DUCILLE, ORVILLE R
Owner address: 5010 N BROADWAY ST
City/state/zip: ST LOUIS,MO 63147
Assessor's - Property Details

I'm not sure what "Saml Cupples" has to do with this company, though. There is not much info on the net. If you move one block west on prairie, the sign appears to say "Saml Cupples Women W____" and above that are the letters

Wo
Perhaps "In the world"?

Anyway, I thought this was pretty neat and that you guys would like to see it.

Canton is also the birthplace of the Rising Sun Stove Polish Company founded by Elijah Morse, a wealthy merchant, creator of the pot-belly stove.

I think I've pieced the sign together here:

Saml Cupples Women (Maybe?) (4 letter word) (2 letter word)

Samuel Cupples death certificate, in case you are curious

His last address is listed as 3673 W Pine Blvd, which is probably the current Cupples mansion on St. Louis University grounds.

Definitely a cool ghost sign. Think the bottom line reads "Samuel Cupples Woodenware Company" which is a company he started in 1882. At one time it was the most profitable such business in the US! Looks to be a sign from the 1890's so this all fits together.

That is one of the best preserved ghost signs I've seen in the area. One of my favorites is the one on the southern wall of the building next to Busch stadium.

It's amazing to me because tens of thousands of people pass it every Cardinals game and probably never give it a thought.

There's a plan to turn that building into the Fulton Bag Lofts, but I think it stalled.

^ The Paddy O's building has new windows so at least some work has been done for a while now. I was unaware it stalled.

I had assumed it stalled, because there's no recent news on it.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Sorry.
