Rock Hollow Trail - STLtoday.com (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/lifestyle/stories.nsf/healthfitness/story/D9221A39F8D98D048625772700808E79?OpenDocument - broken link)

Anyone ever go there before when it was off-limits? I used to go when I was younger with friends at night & we'd scare ourselves silly. We never saw anything strange, but would hear noises in the woods, but we just kinda shrugged it off as being woodland critters.

It's nice that they made it a trail & opened it up to the public, it's very scenic & wooded with tall bluffs on each side of the trail.

Went there back in the late '80's when I was in high school with friends who lived out that way. I think it was off limits at that point; it certainly was deserted. I really don't remember much about it but our experience was similar to what you describe. A long winding trail (I seem to remember it going downhill from where we started) surrounded by woods.

oh yeah! We use to scare ourselves silly, too! How funny that it's now a nature trail!

I grew up right in the neighborhood in the 80s. We could hike through the woods behind our house and find our way there. I remember when the Al Foster trail didn't exist and it was just an old abandoned railroad grade. As a local, I never thought it was a big deal because I was familiar with the area before I was a teenager and then heard all the rumours and stories. Funny.

Dumping was a horrible problem back then when the area was much more rural and remote. I'm glad its being put to good use.
