I buy organic turmeric in powder form & sprinkle it with organic black pepper on a lot of different foods. I don't use it for any one specific reason, just the overall health benefits.
Spices bought in US tend to be safer than those bought overseas or online. However, there are still reports in the US of tainted curry as per recent Washington Post article.
Most of the tainted supplements appear to be for weight loss, building muscle mass, and getting erections, which are spiked with pharmaceutical drugs. From what I've read in the past, the main complaint seems to be that there is less of the active ingredient in most supplements than is being indicated on the label. People are taking products that lack the potency as published in reports that tout their effectiveness.
I was just researching this after seeing that first article today. The FDA suspended all turmeric imports from Bangladesh in 2012 because of lead contamination but I don't know if it has resumed. Some of the Bangladeshi turmeric reportedly flowed through India before coming to the US. Apparently after the suspension, the Bangladeshi exporters stopped adding the lead chromate for exported product so that they didn't lose the US market but I am suspect of all ground turmeric now.
I'm starting to think that the possible beneficial effects of any supplement isn't worth the possibility of dangerous contamination. Think I'll discontinue all supplements for a year and see how my body reacts.
[edit] Upon further research it seems that lead was still being found in ground turmeric after the 2012 suspension of Bangladeshi turmeric imports. All untested ground turmeric is still suspect.
"In December 2016, the FDA issued an import alert (#28-13) after inspectors from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets detected high concentrations of lead in ground turmeric during routine sampling."
Yes. Curamin is a superior product. I'm close to retirement yet am still an elite marathoner. All with the help of a healthy prescription drug free lifestyle.
Staying away from the medical industry has added decades to my life.
One other thing you may want to look into is being able to use a smaller dose that absorbs better. For example, forms that are hydro-soluble absorb better than forms with black pepper extract.
I take Active Atoms turmeric since it has the highest amount of turmeric extract per capsule that I have seen. I recommended it to my brother and it really helped him out for his knees. Turmeric has more research showing positive results than any other supplement I have seen. Studies show you need at least 500-2000 mg of Turmeric Extract to see benefits but be careful as most Turmeric supplement capsules have anywhere from 50-150 mg of Turmeric extract. I heard it can work well to mix CBD oil with it if in pain.
