I figure you're right about bone on bone. And the unlikely possibility that cartilage might grow there by taking supplements. But! It's worth imo a two month try to see if I feel better. Thanks.

Default Bone on bone - do you always need surgery?

Hi - This is my first post, so I hope I am doing it correctly.

I was not told I need knee replacement and I am also bone on bone in one knee, with problems in both knees. I was told to get physical therapy, which I will start next week, and given a cortisone shot in the other knee, which has only minor trouble, but hurts a lot more than the bone on bone one.

There are knee exercises on YouTube for bone on bone osteoarthritis of the knee. They are pretty easy to do. I was also told to stop doing bouncy aerobic dance and lose weight down to where I will be five pounds underweight.

I am using a collagen creamer in my coffee, but the dose is pretty low. I have read that you need collagen, hyaluronic acid, high absorption turmeric w/bioprene, and bosswella to have much effect on joints. Also, to drink a lot of water, and eat the Paleo diet (I've been on Paleo for almost 5 mos. now). If you eat Paleo you are getting lots of chicken and eggs, leafy greens and citrus fruits, which will give you some of the collagen and hyaluronic acid you need.

My problem was caused by arthroscopic surgeries on both knees way back in 1985, which removed some of the cartilage in my right knee and all the cartilage from the left knee. I believe the only reason I suddenly developed issues after all this time is because my inflammation markers suddenly went crazy, with my ANA becoming moderately positive and my hsCRP going from a very healthy 0.1 up to 7.4, which is bad. Why that happened is the real mystery and I have no answers.

If you don't have edema from varicose veins in your legs like I do, you might want to look into SinVisc-One injections of gel into the knees, done every six months. I don't think insurance covers it though. Also, you might try Prolozone, also not covered, but helps some people.

My already OA right knee is worse since docs did a clean out (arthroscopic) in 2017, long story, knee had all gotten worse from hip replacement in 2010....another long agony. OA started in this knee at age 57 and I'm 82,,,,so I don't believe the surgeries did me any benefits...

PRP could work and insurance does not pay. Prolozone could help, and here again I did not try it,, but was close a few times...insurance does not help here either.

Some do OK with HA injections, I did not. I did SynVisc and Eufflexa and neither helped me, and insurance did cover a portion.

Steroid injections, may help temporarily but do breakdown joints more. I won't do them.

I've tried collagens over the years and not much help, but about 9 months ago I found NT2 capsules from Life Extension and they seem to help enough to stay with these. I did do some Great Lakes collagen in coffee for some months years ago and gave up.

I grin and bear it all and would not cut any joints again..

Jaminhealth,
Thanks for the info on your harrowing experiences. I do not trust doctors at all now, having had 8 surgeries for various things, and most of them not working or making me worse. Plus, so many misdiagnoses and mistreatments. I studied to be a Naturopath, specializing in nutritional medicine, but did not do the dissertation after two other NDs in my state went to prison for 5 yrs. each for calling themselves NDs.

Thanks also for your experience with collagens. I notice the amount in my creamer is a lot lower than in t he capsules, but the last time I tried a capsule of collagen and hyaluronic acid, I ended up with Dupeutryns (sp.?) contracture tumors in the palms of both hands. Those tumors are made of collagen, and if they grow larger can turn hands into unusable claws, so I am not about to take a high dose ever again!

I am currently limping and using a cane though, so if PT doesn't help, I won't know what to do next. Without the cortisone shot, I would not be sleeping due to the pain, but I agree with you that the shots should be done as rarely as possible. I have osteopenia from a drug I took, before I learned that docs seem to believe what drug salesmen tell them, so I check it out myself before taking them, and I don't want to lose any more bone.

I have always exercised and I really miss it already. I have late stage Lyme disease and fibromyalgia, so my sense of pain is 3-10 times more than normals. I took opiates the first 12 yrs. with Fibromyalgia and went off cold turkey, so I don't want to get dependent on them again, but the pain makes me a ***** and I cannot sleep. I'm glad you can 'grin and bear it" without becoming a Tasmanian Devil like me, lol!

That's a good question! I do not have that much expertise for what concerns peptides.

I've personally been taking collagen for quite some time now, and I've seen results in terms of skincare, hair and nails.

link deleted. too new to make recommendations.
