We're looking to live within driving distance to unpolluted lakes, not in the valley (hate the humidity), maybe in the hills somewhere around Syracuse?
East or South of Syracuse I guess. I don't know much about the area - even though I was born in Utica, had a grandfather who lived his life in Rome until he died, and spent my teen years and until I was 22 in Rochester. I've only driven through Syracuse area.
So, if you could, take a look at my post below and see if you could give me some information.

I don't think you said anything wrong. It was probably more a case of someone with knowledge of Greater Syracuse not seeing your thread or not being online yet today due to work/social commitments. I know moderator BellaFinzi resides in the Syracuse suburbs and is a wealth of knowledge about the area. Try sending her a private message if she doesn't respond to this thread by tomorrow.
I live about 2.5 hours south of Syracuse via I-81, but I've been to the city several times and think it has a lot of potential to make a great comeback. I'm not too familiar with the surrounding towns either though, I'm sorry to say. Good luck though in your search!
I take it from your name you live in Wilkes-Barre area. We actually considered moving there, because of the new casino coming your way (we're in south central PA - Lancaster).
We're retired and love to gamble (having lived in CA for 30 years). AND I love to play bingo. There's none of that here. I haven't played bingo in 6 years. Oh there's bingo, but it's "basket bingo." I don't want to pay $10 to win some soap or canned goods!
Plus, we've found that the fishing areas are inaccessible for us handicapped folks. The distance from the parked car in the lots to the water is prohibitive.
And I remember the lakes in NY being much more accessible.

Yep! I actually live just five miles north of the new casino in Wilkes-Barre. I'm turning 21 this November, and I can't wait to spend my birthday evening pulling the slot handle (or pushing those little buttons I guess). I'm a blackjack maniac, so I'm hopeful that PA will soon permit table games as well. That would do wonders for the area, especially now that one other casino is coming to the region, with the potential for a third one on the way as well. There was a large outcry before the casino's opening from the conservatives about crime, decreasing property values, addiction, violence, etc., but none of that has come to fruition. There has been very little crime at or near the casino other than a few purse-snatchings, property values nearby have increased, and there are resources available locally to help those who develop a gambling addiction. I can't wait until November 2 when I can enjoy my first glass of champagne and hopefully win (or lose) a few bucks! LOL! I'm already putting a few dollars aside from each paycheck as "play money" so I know my limits.
As far as handicapped-accessibility is concerned, that is a weak point for PA in general, and I'm hoping you'll have better luck in NY. You'd think that a state like PA, with the third-highest concentration of senior citizens in the nation behind Florida and Arizona would have more to offer for our physically-disabled folks. Then again, Scranton's Nay Aug Park just added a gorgeous new handicapped-accessible treehouse with great views, and more is on the way.

We actually thought about moving up to the Wilkes-Barre, Allentown, Bethlehem area once the casinos were approved (although the Bethlehem casino has now been delayed until 2009). But we heard that the Wilkes-Barre area was not one of the best areas to live in or around.
What third casino are you referring to (when you talked about a possible third one being approved/constructed).
And, by the way, according to Money and Kiplinger, PA is now SECOND behind Florida. Such a crime too. We moved here from San Diego thinking that because of the programs the State had for Seniors (we're not there yet, but working on it) we'd be golden.
But for us, the fishing has been very disappointing. We don't have many thrills in life but fishing is definitely one of them.
I saw your MySpace site. I see you are majoring in Accounting. That's what I got my degree in many years ago. Funny thing though, I never did a lick of work in accounting. I did, however, end up working as a network administrator / computer specialist for the government for many years. I was self-taught in the computer field long before computers were in every home. Heck, truth be told, my first DOS program was on a punch card. Yeah, I'm THAT old. LOL
Anyways, sorry to bore you, but I wanted to thank you for writing and wanted to find out more about what you know re: gambling in PA. We were hoping that with the licensing tables and bingo halls would be included. My husband's fav is roulette and mine is black jack. And I love me some bingo. With three Indian casinos within 30 minutes of our home in San Diego, we were gambling a lot. Then, of course, there was Vegas.
It's been 6 years since we stepped inside a casino or bingo hall. And we're seriously jonesing. Our youngest daughter is starting her junior year at MU (Art Education) so we figured that since we only moved here so that both our daughters could attend MU without having to pay out-of-state tuition, that next year was the time to move closer to gambling and fishing. She'd only have her senior year left and then she's on to graduate school. She'll be 21 in November as well and she's going to be fine without us in her senior year.
