Can anyone share info about Cayuga County: Taxes, schools, quality of life, the amount of snow compared to Onondaga and Oswego County. If there was a choice of these three counties which would you recommend to raise three kids and own a home around 150,000.Thanks.

Hello FireJackie,

I would be willing to help you with information but you are not giving us enough information about your SPECIFIC requirements and your employment qualifications; your line of work. I don't think you want to have to drive 50 miles twice a day to go & return from your workplace. There's just too much information about the subject of Counties without you giving us more specific details. All three counties (and other counties) would have similar information. Snowfall will be similar; usually more snow just inland of Lake Ontario and farther into New York State for 40 to 60 miles. You can buy a nice existing home in many areas for $150,000. Sales taxes & income taxes will be very similar all across Upstate NY; very SLIGHT differences. Property taxes can vary depending on where you live; there's no way to tell you specifically about property taxes unless you give specific details. I can not decide for you which County would be best for you; your requirements and mine could be very different. I prefer an urban metropolitan semi-city area whereas you might prefer a small village or remote isolated rural area where there aren't many neighbors;=that's an example of the details any of us City-Data Members would need in order to give you the best advice.

I think that you must be looking at a map and reading some general descriptions about the Counties you mentioned. If you would give us your specific information requirements then we could suggest specific places that might be best for you.

Do you prefer any type of "Ethnic" Culture aspects areas/neighborhoods such as living in an Italian or Irish or Oriental or Muslum or Afro-American or some other "nationalities" area. Those type details would help any of us give you the best information.

That's about all I can tell you without knowing more specific information from you. Good luck to you.

If you look into Cayuga County, I'd say that the Weedsport school district or parts of the county in the Skaneateles school district may be the best choices in terms of schools, but still being close enough to Auburn for shopping, healthcare and some things to do. Union Springs may be another option.
