There are a lot of boarded up houses, but not because of a storm.
All we got a slight breeze and a drizzle of rain.

Not like bad weather doesn't happen around here. And in some areas up here there was some damage, flooding, and power outages. Granted not as bad as the coastal areas, but that is what comes with living on the coast unfortunately.

No, this is not what comes with living on the coast. Towns that are 30 miles inland are still underwater. Some people aren't getting power back for 8 weeks. Its 30 degrees here today- many in the state have no heat or hot water to take a bath. This wasn't just a coastal storm.

Also, the coast only see storms that destroy barrier islands every 100 years or so. Its almost like Armageddon in certain parts of this state. So if you don't know what your talking about, maybe you shouldn't talk so much.

In terms of land mass, 30 miles is coastal. Some towns under water are under water from rivers and that falls under the coastal category. I am well aware of the power situation and temperatures outside. I have friends in the area and they are dealing.

The last serious hurricane to hit the NYC area was in 1938 so it's close to 100 years. And those 100 year and 500 year flood warnings don't really mean a thing as many areas have been discovering over the last few decades.

I have an aunt who lived in a 500 year flood plain. She had 3 500 year floods in 5 years. Kind of throws away that 500 year idea. ANd her land has since been changed to a flood plain lossing the 500 year designation.

Many of those barrier islands are man made. Nothing can withstand Mother Nature. Water goes where it wants and there's no stopping it.

The Mississippi floods very frequently yet people keep rebuilding in the same place. Why? While it may be your home, you have to be a little bit practical.

NYC wasn't built in a few weeks. It will take years to be cleaned and rebuilt. New Orleans still isn't done rebuilding since Katrina and that was 10 years ago.

If 30 miles is coastal, then I guess all of NJ is coastal. None of it should be rebuilt.

The barrier islands in NJ and NY are not man made. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from. If anything, those natural barrier islands protected the mainland from further destruction.
