I've recently been asked to write an essay on police consolidation; it is a complete waste of money. I know East Syracuse and North Syracuse have had talks about allowing the Sheriffs to take over. Here is an article on why we shouldn't allow this to happen. Police Consolidation: The End of Local Law Enforcement?

I believe that it has worked out fine for the town of Clay, but I could be wrong. Here is an article that talks about that merger: A tale of two mergers - Officer.com Mobile

Also, East Syracuse was looking to dissolve into the town of DeWitt PD.

Oh yeah, they are trying to be run by Dewitt, however, I've read numerous articles on why it is a waste of money. Also, my professor is the chief of police for Lockport, NY and he agrees that it is a huge waste of money.

I'm sure there are plenty of articles agreeing with what CKH posted. It is your opinion, not a fact.

I think consolidation is a loaded term, as it depends on how the entities involved go about it too.

The reasons why law enforcement does not approve of the the dissolution of their own positions are fairly transparent though, no? No one likes having their redundancy pointed out, much less rectified in order for the establishment to be most efficient...

Haha, crazy talk.

(In all seriousness, it's really sad that someone misses this obvious conflict. This forum is stranger than fiction sometimes; every time I click on a thread about some well-settled concept, there's an out-of-left field post that misses what is, as you said, transparent and evident to the rest of us.)

And to the extent that I ever had an opinion about the law enforcement establishment of whatever Lockport is, well, that's been diminished.

OK, I'll bite: how is consolidation a waste of money?

Concrete facts, and concisely, please.

If they start consolidating, it will make it even harder to double dip.
