Nice catch on the Sauquoit place. Thats a slightly shorter drive then Fayetteville. Both 5 and 8 are mostly four lane highway and should be doable under most conditions.

To the OP, are you married to Fayettville for a reason or is it just a point on a map??

Because for the same or less drive time you can draw a circle from Weedsport to Herkimer and Remsen to Bridgewater. Thats a huge area right there sister.

The place CK pointed out in Whitestown for example has several ways to get to and alot of it is four lane with 65MPH speed limits.

Weedsport would have the advantage of Rochester being 45 minutes away for shopping.

Same deal with Herkimer. 45 minute drive for hubby to work and a 20 drive on 5S for you to shop.

On the Sauquoit area, I know it alittle. Its ok. Very small, not really anything there. Very safe. Close to shopping via RT 8.

Couldn't help but have some fun with this one tonite. Talked myself right into a Red Robin meal so watched the speed limits on the way.

My wives car also doesn't do 1/10th so its kind of a guess but at most the trip between TS and Fayetteville has 6-7 miles at 55MPH. So 25% is the new "most".

Now before CK catches the lie I have to come clean. I'm on 365 alot and its 45 and 35 in those parts. However the part between 365A and Patrick road is not a part I am ever on as I take Hill Rd to the casino. So it may be 55 for that 1-2 mile(s). From the 365A turn on its 35.

And also I said there were 11 lights between TS and Canastota when in fact there are 12.

In light traffic (pre-5PM) and clear roads I pulled into RR in 47 minutes.

I wasn't going to say anything.

As for the home rentals, the issue I see it that there aren't that many rental homes in the Utica-Rome area, for some reason. I've found a few, but I think only 1 or 2 fits what the OP is looking for. I think proximity to highway access will be something that will have to be considered as well, given the situation.

Your the master at ferreting those out so if you say no then its no.

Because houses are so cheap I don't really know alot of renters. I do know whole houses generally go fast and rarely get advertised. Almost all are somebody lost a job and is moving out of state and can't sell the house. So friend of a friend type stuff the house is rented without an ad ever being posted.

That is probably the case and home rentals while possible, are rare due to housing prices being lower on average compared to most areas around the country.

Craigslist seems to be the only place with home rentals in the Utica-Rome area. Even finding apartments seem to be harder to find in comparison to other Upstate areas.

On another note, I drove by the DeWitt postings and all are in very nice areas. Two are in the DeWittshire/Orvilton area and the other in the Bradford Heights area.

I've looked at a lot of those. Some wont work because they don't allow pets. So far no luck finding houses. The one that would work closest for us is in Onondaga. Schools are Westhill and Cherryhill.

Good schools(went there, btw), but it is on the other side of Syracuse. Your youngest would actually go to Walberta Park Elementary and the 4th grader would go to Cherry Road Elementary. I don't think the home allows pets either. I believe the one of Bradford Parkway allows pets, but I don't know if it is something else that could be an issue for you in terms of the house. Here are homes that allow pets: Pompey Real Estate - 2807 Citation Dr, Pompey, NY, 13138

Dewitt Real Estate - 211 Ambergate Rd, Dewitt, NY, 13214

Tully Real Estate - 7625 St. Charles Bay Rd., Tully, NY, 13159 (more rural/small town and is about 15 minutes or so south of Syracuse)

Skaneateles Real Estate - 1485 E Genesee St, Skaneateles, NY, 13152 (again about 15-20 minutes from Syracuse and is west of it)

So I have heard to avoidnUtica as it has a "tougher" parts. But then I've heard New Hartford schools are the best. What would you all say?

I would call that accurate. There are some nice areas in Utica, but much like Syracuse, you have to know where to look and it may be surrounded by not so nice neighborhoods. New Hartford is the nicer part of the Utica area.

I would agree thats accurate.

Both Utica and Syracuse, the cities themselves, are very rough. Neither really have anything you'd ever need so you'd never go to either so they aren't often mentioned.

You mentioned schools and per CK's school ranking list Syracuse has the second worst schools in the state.

Utica actually has some very nice areas. My daughter goes to collage there and I'm often on the Parkway thinking how beautiful. However my kids are grown and Utica schools are like 5th on that list of worst in the state.

Private schools are present and could make it work for you but I always just skip it. I did slip earlier in this thread when I said Rome which has some great areas but forgot about schools. I can move anywhere without thinking of schools and sometimes forget not everyone can.
