Both locations (Conshohocken and Utica) aren't certain yet. I just want to prepared, 'cause I'll have to make a fast decision and changing country involve a lot of things (papers, papers, papers...) I'll still keep my condo inbe Montreal and rent it. I'll come back on long weekend to keep up my French :P
When you can't find work in your field, you have to go away, but I think I'll like living in the US. Been almost everywhere in the US.
Conshohocken would fit you better. You could live in Manayunk, which is a vibrant, urban, young part of Philly with lots of college students and young professionals, plenty of bars.
Trust me, Syracuse is NOT a hip nightlife city to be in.
YES- Manayunk is the place you wanna be if commuting to Conshohocken. I can't speak for Syracuse nightlife, and Philly is good but not as good as Montreal. Still, you can have a good time there, just keep your wits about you in Philly at night.
You won't find what you are looking for in either Syracuse or Utica. I think you will find being close to Philly and closer to NYC would be a better fit for you.
Yeah, I agree that Philadelphia would fit more in terms of having that neighborhood you are looking for and the more certain, sure commute. Straight shot down 76 from Manayunk to Conshocken, really. Here's a streetview of the Manayunk neighborhood: Manayunk, Philadelphia, PA - Google Maps
The thing is that both employers haven't made a decision yet. The best job will be in Utica. I have to get this american working experience in the medical devices industry. Is New-Hartford (or Clinton) a okay place to live around Utica or I'm better sticking to Utica? Syracuse is way too far (2 hours round-trip from Utica). Damn!

If you want to live in Utica, you may like South Utica around Parkway/Burrstone Road and south into New Hartford or North Utica, but North Utica is more of a suburb within city limits. South Utica has more of an older look and feel, but mostly in a good way. You could possibly check to see if there are any apartments around Varick Street, if you want to be close to the nightlife there or you could just take a 20 minute drive to the Casino/Resort in Verona. Outer neighborhoods in East and West Utica seem to be fine as well.
That is essentially Downtown Utica and I believe that the Stanley Theater isn't too far down the street at all. You can take Court or Columbia Streets to Varick Street too.
pretty cheap rents! But , I hope to get a job elsewhere!
