You will be very disappointed if you compare Syracuse pizza to NYC and NJ diners to Syracuse diners.

They call off school here if it's even calling for "winter weather" in the morning. If it rains too hard, people seem to lose their ability to drive here. I don't miss the bitter cold of the more northern winters, but northern cities expect snow and seem to know better how to deal with it. I assume this applies to Syracuse? Good snow handling in the city?
Yes, the area is prepared for the snow and life goes on as usual.

As for pizza, you may like Gianni's Bronx Style Pizza on Burnet Ave. I know a lady from work that is originally from Long Island that says that Pavone's is supposedly comparable. As for diners, I'm not sure what you look for, but there are quite a few in the area to try. Here are some websites: NY Gianni's Bronx Style Pizza - 315.425.7770 - Syracuse, NY

Pavone's Pizza and Eatery Syracuse, NY

Cam's Pizzeria - Family Style, Our Style

Stella's Diner

Market Diner - Home

You won't find a 24 hour diner that serves Greek, Italian, American, and breakfast items at all hours.

Did j1n mention a 24 hour diner? By the way, you may like this place for something late at night: Cosmos Pizza & Grill - Syracuse, New York. Pizza in Syracuse They serve breakfast at all times and is open until 1 am Sunday-Tuesday and 2 am from Wednesday-Saturday.

If you want something that is 24 hours, this may work: MamaNancys.com

I had pizza in downtown Liverpool, can't remember the name but it was pretty decent. NJ comparable. NYC, maybe not.

I have found that most diner food has really gone downhill. It seems like its all supplied by the same company (probably Aramark or Sysco). I'll never miss a NJ diner when I head out of state. Same with Philly cheesesteaks.

I hoping wherever I land there is good, high quality Chinese food. Not the greasy crap they serve in most places here- the kind with the faded pictures of broccoli that looks blue...

The NYC/NJ diners are all about 24 hour full menus. That is why I mentioned it.
Mama Nancy's is disgusting and I felt like I needed a tetanus shot after eating there. Being next door to the dead hooker motel makes for an interesting freak show though.

Yeah, when you look up the definition of greasy spoon, they show Mama Nancy's. If you didn't know any better, you wouldn't even think that there is a diner there.

Vintage, I think that pizza place in Liverpool you are talking about is Pizza Villa. I also think that you are right about many diners using Sysco or Aramark. If you are ever in town again and want Chinese, check out China Road on Brewerton Road/Route 11 in Mattydale or China Pavilion in Westvale Plaza on West Genesee Street in Solvay.

Best pizza in Syracuse, hands down. https://www.facebook.com/Ironwoodmanlius?filter=2

They used to have just a truck and closed that early in the summer of 2011. I was bummed. I'm so glad they're open again!

Yep, that's the place.

Google Maps

Never made it to Pastabilities, though it was my goal when I got there after seeing it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. My cuisine experience in Syracuse has been limited, but Dinosaur and that place have been good.
