Are you actually looking for a house(rental or otherwise) or is this about what was found on the Zillow listings?

Again, I would look at the Onondaga County property tax website I posted for more specific information versus just relying on Zillow alone. All you have to do is follow the directions on the site and enter an address.

Also, as mentioned, it likely is due to the previous home owner and what they qualifed for. As well as what may have occurred in terms of an assessment.

Another thing is that the property taxes listed are usually listed without consideration for any property tax exemptions, including STAR. So, that is another thing to consider.

Also, what is the budget involved?

I have seen the same thing, over and over. I asked a realtor and he told me taxes are $4000 on a $100,000 house in the Liverpool area, or $5000 for the same value property right in the village. But, I saw countess houses that were (for example) $2000 total taxes in 2016, jumping to $4000 in 2017. What gives? I want to move there, but the taxes are kind of scary.

Read the previous posts. Said properties could have been owned by older home owners that qualified for property tax exemptions, but new owners may not have the same amount of property tax exemptions.

Also, what is listed isn’t necessarily what you pay in taxes due to not including property tax exemptions. So, that is something to keep in mind. Same with writing off your property taxes.

Again, read prior posts for more insight and no need to be “scared” as long as you consider the property tax situation and overall housing cost picture.
