Another such neighborhood in Syracuse that also gets forgotten about and has a higher percentage of home owners in the South Valley neighborhood(south of Seneca Turnpike): 4 Valley — Tomorrow's Neighborhoods Today
The specific portion that I am referring to: Census Tract 006103 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block Group 006000-2 in Onondaga County, New York
Census Block Group 006000-4 in Onondaga County, New York
So, it is largely solidly middle class.

There are some businesses that you could walk to on Valley Drive: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0021...6!9m2!1b1!2i37
A very good ice cream shop and good sandwich shop at the intersection: Syracuse's Favorite Homemade Ice Cream Shop - Gannon's Ice Cream
https://www.jrecksubsvalleydrivetogo.com/

South Salina Street(in Nedrow): https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9849...6!9m2!1b1!2i37
A nice , smaller grocery store in the street view: One of the Best Grocery Stores in Syracuse NY | Green Hills

There are also some businesses on South Salina Street in the North Valley, but it is more scattered/has some empty spots: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0027...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0105...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

At South Salina and Seneca Turnpike: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0007...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

This is another ice cream shop/cafe in/near the area: https://www.thebroadwaycafe.com/
It is right across Seneca Turnpike from this park, which also has an ice skating rink where the Syracuse City HS Hockey team plays its home games and an indoor swimming pool at Clary Middle School(where you would enter to get to it): http://www.syrgov.net/Parks/meachemFieldValleyPool.html
http://www.syracuse.ny.us/Parks/MeachemIceRink.html

You also have this pond in the neighborhood: WELCOME TO WEBSTER POND"NATURE'S BEST KEPT SECRET
Webster Pond » Fish Onondaga County
http://www.syracuse.ny.us/Parks/websterPond.html
Just down the road heading south on Valley Drive from the street view.

Another park in the neighborhood: http://www.syrgov.net/Parks/HeathPark.html

There is also this town of Onondaga park nearby in Nedrow across Dorwin Avenue: https://onondagany.myrec.com/info/fa...cilityID=14708

There is also a library in the South Valley portion: https://www.onlib.org/locations/city...branch-library

Some schools that are in the area or that they are zoned for, Public: Meachem Elementary - Syracuse City School District
Clary Middle School - Syracuse City School District
EXPEDITIONARY Learning Middle School - Syracuse City School District (last 2 are next to each other)
Corcoran High School - Syracuse City School District
A program at the HS: International Baccalaureate (IB) Program @ Corcoran High School - Syracuse City School District
There are also other magnet options like ITC for HS or the Syracuse Latin School.

Charter: https://sascs.org/index.php?option=c...=12&Itemid=203 (elementary portion, at the former St. James Catholic school)

Private: https://www.faithheritageschool.org/ (Pre K-12th grade Christian school and it is right next to the Broadway Cafe/Arctic Island ice cream shop)
For other private options, some go to Christian Brothers Academy, Bishop Ludden or even Manlius Pebble Hill as well.

Some residential street views: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9943...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9915...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9871...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9966...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9989...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

https://www.google.com/maps/@42.9925...6!9m2!1b1!2i37

So, it is a neighborhood that kind of has a rural feel to it as well.

This is held every July by the Valley American Legion at Meachem Field: https://www.localsyr.com/news/valley...0853/769496691

A bus line: https://www.centro.org/docs/default-...rsn=7f884c9d_8

A nearby hospital on Onondaga Hill: University Hospital Community Campus | SUNY Upstate Medical University (historically just called Community General Hospital)
You can also get to University Hill hospitals via goine east on Seneca Turnpike and then taking a left onto Brighton Avenue and either take I-81 north or a right onto Ainsley, a left onto Jamesville Ave/Comstock Ave., then a left onto Waverly. This takes you by Syracuse University and near SUNY-ESF as well.

Some may be leery(have heard such sentiments in another forum)because of proximity to the Onondaga Nation past Nedrow: Onondaga Nation | People of the Hills which also has this arena not too far away: Onondaga Nation Arena or proximity to the South Side due to its rep, but it is a nice solid area that is stable. A good diner that I have been to on "the Rez"(as it is called by some): Home

I will say for more big box shopping, you would have to go to the western of eastern suburbs. so, that would be something to consider. However, the area itself is somewhat of a "sleeper" in terms of a nice SFH city neighborhood.

A couple of other city neighborhoods that are in the SW corner that are somewhat popular with people that move into the area are Strathmore(especially and inc. the Summit Ave. area) and another lesser thought of, but nice area in Winkworth(portions are also in the town of Onondaga/Westhill SD).

An East Side neighborhood that comes to mind with a middle class SFH presence is this neighborhood just east of Syracuse University's South Campus: OCNA - Outer Comstock Neighborhood Association (OCNA) - Syracuse, New York

Personally, I'd say that the portion east of Jamesville Avenue is the area in mind, as it is strictly SFH's, along with the Comstock Commons condo community and this new housing development: Xavier Woods Homes

Census Block Group 005500-1 in Onondaga County, New York (includes a big set of apartments north of East Colvin, but is a solid SFH area south of it: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0229...6!9m2!1b1!2i37)

Census Block Group 005500-2 in Onondaga County, New York (the portion straddling/east of Jamesville Ave. is a solid/nice SFH area: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0191...6!9m2!1b1!2i37)

Census Block Group 005601-1 in Onondaga County, New York (the "stem" portion south of East Colvin/east of Comstock: https://www.google.com/maps/@43.0186...6!9m2!1b1!2i37)

So, a working/middle class area...

It is close to this area for employment, events, shopping/restaurants or hospitals: https://university-hill.com/

Please refer to crime statistics for City neighborhoods, also. Certain areas of the City are experiencing a renaissance in violent crime.

“A renaissance in violent crime”? Pretty much the same areas mentioned on here in the past are the same now. Which areas are you referring to?

Crime in the city has actually gone down in general over the past few years, but there are still issues to deal with like most cities in the country of substantial size. Syracuse is the 5th biggest city in NY State and about 85th in metro size or so in the country(out of 400 metro areas). So, while it isn’t huge, it isn’t exactly Mayberry either and never was.

With that said, there are still nice/stable neighborhoods in many parts of the city. Another such area is this portion of the East Side that covers the Meadowbrook, Scottholm and Bradford Hills: Census Tract 004600 in Onondaga County, New York

Meadowbrook: https://goo.gl/maps/hnnjeh8Xhe72
(Is in between the next 2)

Scottholm: https://goo.gl/maps/VP4b79YgfYM2
Census Block Group 004600-4 in Onondaga County, New York

Bradford Hills: https://goo.gl/maps/C4AVme31EFm
Census Block Group 004600-3 in Onondaga County, New York

More from that tract, Hillsboro Parkway area: https://goo.gl/maps/AuAohNZ3CX12
Census Block Group 004600-2 in Onondaga County, New York

In between Salt Springs Rd./East Genesee St.: https://goo.gl/maps/PTvSC2CKYQr
Census Block Group 004600-5 in Onondaga County, New York

https://goo.gl/maps/yKXyvH2YbK62
Census Block Group 004600-1 in Onondaga County, New York

So, pretty much a generally straight to upper middle class area.
