I just can't stand how many mix-use developments New York State has granted. These developments create temp construction jobs, and little-to-no jobs once completed. Not to mention, the hundreds of new apartments currently under construction. We're going to have a very low occupancy rate, which will result in landlords foreclosing on their properties.
On the flip side, nice to see that they granted money for the new Manlius port.

Why so negative? Mix use developments are all over the country. A good portion of the country had them for YEARS before they started showing up here. What would you prefer? Run down, dumping, abandoned crap that property taxes aren't being paid on versus new construction which would be worth more and be taxed more?
How do you know the apartments are going to have a low occupancy rate? I know several older folks who have recently given up their homes - sold them or gave them to family - who have moved into apartments because the house was too much for them. That's happening more and more.
The SALT District website has a live construction camera facing the new headquarters of Syracuse PBS affiliate WCNY-TV. The public television station will relocate from Liverpool to the city's Near West Side.

Seems there is a lot of great news on the economic front, nice to see CNY's regional economic plan came in second (behind the Finger Lakes region) after first place last year.
I think the county should sell this property to Polaris (though the credits can apply to any building they choose) for a number of reasons, the property is available, a buyer is ready, a library services building moving into a former library of historically significance, plus, it would expedite the redevelopment and provide new vitality for Columbus Circle with new employees. It seems all the piece are in place!
I agree, the county should sell to Polaris and put the building on the tax rolls. Columbus Circle could use a shot in the arm and you never know, maybe someone will become interested in Mitzpah Towers.

I think the SALT District construction camera is linked into WCNY's web-cam, I posted that one a couple months ago. I wonder if WCNY is going to illuminate its new Broadcast Center with some urban art at night?
