I was surfing the web for this project and came across the attached publication that provides a rendering of the CNY Biotechnology Research Center facility. It is somewhat different from the original design (proposed for the SU hill) on the website :CNY Biotechnology Research Center.

Scroll down and the publication provides a narrative (and photograph) of the former Kennedy Square Apartments and the future CNYBRC (and ra endering). Also, the publication provides an arial of the CNYBTC site plan.

I am not sure if anyone has seen any of this, but I thought it would be interesting to post in light of the discussion between Acknight and Cleveland Park. Regards.

Here are some photos of the new downtown showroom for Lakeland Boatworks. The Michigan-based manufacturer and retailer of high-end wooden boats selected a former bank branch at 499 South Warren for its first retail showroom in the northeast.

The new Hampton Inn, off Erie, closest to Thompson Road. And the Lowe's. The Holiday Inn Express across from Home Depot on Bridge Street looks almost exactly the same as the Hampton but is smaller. Sorry for the blurry/weird pics. It's hard to take pics and wait for it to clear to take another and drive at once. lol

Thanks, UrbanPlanner. All my Yahooing and I couldn't come up with that link.

(Odd that the Sub-Standard will go on ad infinitum with half-assed pieces about national politics and doom-and-gloom stories about local government while ignoring real news stories about local development. The absence of any real local media certainly holds the area back.)

Thanks proulxfamily for the photos, it is much appreciated. I am assuming you were traveling "west" on 690 when "shooting" the Hampton Inn? The overpass is Thompson Road and the hotel is to the south?

Interesting locations for the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express on Bridge Street, these are not likely locations. In the past, most of these chain hotels usually located along the Thruway or I-81 north of the City, not in the City or Dewitt. There has to be an increase in demand and/or something may be anticipated for the area. The Lowes looks good and spruces up Midler Ave and I think the Holiday Inn Express on Bridge Street is an interesting location.

Cleveland Park - no problem, it's the least I can do considering all the hard work you guys do posting photos and links. I am not surprised you could not find the link, I stumbled across it. I am not as impressed with the latest design though. However, I am glad it is underway and will inspire further development in immediate area (I believe the CNYBRC only takes up 4 acres of the 14 acres - the remaining 10 acres better be mixed-use) and additonal investment into the CNY economy. CNY can hope to enjoy the type of revitalization the the Capital District is experiencing.

Thanks to all...

Here's another development-related article I found; link from the CNY Biz Journal leads to a subscribers-only page, so here's a copy paste:

Swanson plans hotel for former Temple Adath site

Changes strategy from condo plan

Norman Swanson, president of the Woodbine Group, outside the former Temple Adath Yeshurun at 601 S. Crouse Ave, which he plans to turn into Hotel Skyler. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2010.
- The man responsible for developing two hotels near the Syracuse University campus has his sights set on a third hotel-development project in the same area.
Norman Swanson, president of the Woodbine Group, wants to turn the former Temple Adath Yeshurun at 601 S. Crouse Ave. into a nearly 60-room hotel called the Hotel Skyler.
Swanson originally planned to renovate the temple into 17 condominium units, but the downturn in the economy forced a change in strategy for the building.

I navigated through CP, thanks for the effort though. Isn't Norman Swanson the guy who redeveloped the Genessee Grande and the Parkview Hotels? Too bad he could not swing the condos, I would have like to see a mid-rise developed in that area. I heard they were going to be 10 stories, wow what a view!! A hotel could be a good thing, with its proximity to SU, SUNY Medical Center, and SUNY ESF. It is not unusual for developers to switch to hotel from residential if the local market dictates. Fortunately for Syraucse, it does. Thanks again for the article.

I am also happy to see that he is keeping the 10 story mixed-use residential tower alive after the hotel is complete.

"Once construction on Hotel Skyler is complete, Swanson also hopes to eventually use an additional acre of land on the site to construct a 10-story tower that would include three stories of parking space and a mixture of office and residential space, possibly condominiums."

He is probably waiting to see how the economy fares.
