He doesn't have a reader yet but I was thinking to get him one for Father's Day as he recently found out he will be traveling to 2 more oversees sites, 7-9 days at a time. No way can he pack 14-18 books for the trip!!

I'm a big time novel reader, myself. Sure, some books can be read in a day, but others can take a few days, depending on how many pages there are and how small the print is. An 800+ page book always takes more time to read than the usual run-of-the-mill book, though I guess some people can read a lot faster than I.
I always prefer reading the old fashioned way and don't see the point to downloading, especially when it comes to browsing the aisles. That's where I make some of my discoveries. Then, once I've read a big box full of books, I send them to Afghanistan for the soldiers (with the help of the company I work for.)
I imagine if I were in your DH's position, I'd probably do the same thing on long trips and in countries where books are hard to come by, though I'd still prefer regular paperbacks.
