I would to buy a nice gift for my daughter. I am not sure if I know that each of these things do. I think the kindle and the nook are just things to read books on. And I think the Ipad and Ipod touch are the same but the Ipad is just bigger? And with those you can put your music on it, get on the internet with it for basic things like facebook and youtube and read your books on both of them.
Is that right or could you let me know what each of these things do?

The ipod tough is nice and portable. I use it all the time for checking emails at work, or too catch up on the news when I have a chance (i download news podcasts) or too kill time when I am waiting (games, music, videos, movies).
. But you just have to laugh when you see someone using one as a camera.
Don't know enough about nook and kindle to comment on them.

Many many reviews and comparisons on the web... ipad nook kindle - Google Search
iPad2 is still best IMHO, due to its functions, apps available, the OS, etc. iPod Touch is also great, for my / our uses.
Guess one quick question back to you... what do you see your daughter being happier with, now and in future? Size, functions, capabilities?

If you want all sorts of hassles copying music, moving music, format limitations, and extra expense for hyped advertising then buy an Ipod.
Otherwise, get her a plain MP3 player from Wal Mart - it plays anything (inlcuding WMA), plugs into any computer with no sync hassles, and costs less.

Simply put the ipad is a full blown portable computer where the nook and the kindle are just electric devices to read e-books on.
Depending on your child's age decide if you want a device for her to read or a computer to go places you might not want her to.
I struggled with these same said choices. In the end I picked the ipad but, I'm 65 so I can read/do what I please.

My friend got a kindle sometime last year and I think the thing is really cool. The way the screen displays is really nice on the eyes. It's like looking at a page in a book rather than a lite up screen. I'd go with that if she likes to read.
Otherwise, go with the IPad. If I was interested in an Ipod touch so much I'd rather just get the IPhone. Otherwise the IPad is better if you're not getting the phone.
That's my opinion.
