Do you prefer Amazon over B&N or the other way around? Do you care about Apps or expandable storage? Will you watch video on either device?

Read reviews and review the specs on each. If possible, go to a store and try both. This should help you decide.

I kept my Kindle Fire about 7 days. It's on its way back to Amazon. Having said that, it would have probably made an excellent e-reader. The color display was bright and sharp.

My complaints were with other aspects of the Fire. it repeatedly dropped the WiFi connection, even when I was 5' from the router. It would not reacquire the connection, requiring me to manually re-connect. Also, my semi-fat fingers were not compatible with the virtual keypad. The email app was easy to set up and worked well, but emails were displayed in a tiny unreadable font, with no way to increase the font size or to zoom the display, as the browser does.

....I looked, read, touched, pondered, procrastinated-- then got the iPad. I am extremely happy. Keep it simple, you get what you pay for.
