Yeah, Apple products are made in a plant that has nets strung around it because too many people were committing suicide by jumping off the roof.
That's what happens when you don't have unions.
Same plant also makes the Xbox (and manu other consumer devices). Its not just an Apple issue.
On the other hand, since China is essentially conducting business like the US was in 19th century, I would not be surprised to see a union movement developing in China, especially in a country with a socialist history.
Just hope that another Mao-type character doesn't come along
You can thank the unions for the Made in China label...
Apple is in business to make a profit which they would never turn with unionized labor in America...
iPad Made in America? No-one could afford it.
Foreign car makers can figure out how to make a profit by building their products in America, maybe the fat cats at Apple can take a couple percentage points off of their salaries to show a little love for America.

Probably not taking salaries but stock options. 15 percent vs 33 percent

How well is a union going to do without the backing of the Mafia?
Our tax code and all the rules and regulations are what drive companies overseas. It's just too expensive to do business here now. Just think how much companies have to spend on compliance to federal and state regulations.
Companies that do invest in the USA get exemptions, tax breaks and other incentives to bring their business here.

Foreign auto makers in the US are not straddled with the unions, in particular the legacy costs associated with pensions.
The other thing is it's not cheap to ship a very large car, those costs are minimal when you can have a few million dollars worth of merchandise in same spot.

I'm not sure if that's accurate, and I'm not going to go and look because all it takes to join or form a union is a consensus amongst employees and some paperwork. If they could afford to import them and sell them up to now, they could certainly afford to keep doing that. Whether you're shipping a million tons of cars, or a million tons of cheap made in China junk that will broken in a week, it costs just as much to run a boat.
