My husband is not much of a computer person. He's been using a very slow netbook for the last few years just for streaming online radio shows. The netbook is so slow that searching the internet or checking emails isn't even worth it.

I'd like to get him a simple, basic (inexpensive if possible) tablet that would work for online radio (would buy speakers or headphones) and that is good for searching online as well. Sturdy would be best, or I could get a case. I doubt he'd use apps, although maybe for radio.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Just get a Quadcore Tablet with minimum 1GB of RAM (2GB is better), running Andorid 4.2 and up, 1280x800HD screen and you should be fine.
-Hisense Srro 7 Pro is $115, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 are good but a tad pricey and the Asus 16GB Memo pad is very good and $150

You could always buy him a Windows 8.1 tablets too for around $250 as they perform better than older netbooks, have quadcores, HD screens and will do what you are looking for.
-Dell Venue Pro and Toshiba Encore would be the cheapest ones.

some good suggestions^ I would add the Dell Venue 7" and 8" (Android) starting about $140 (cheaper if you can find a sale)

Streaming radio is one of the tasks that even the very cheapest off-brand tablets can do well. I have a $39 off-brand tablet that can do that. It's underpowered for gaming and video-watching, but it'll play radio just fine.

I'd avoid the Hisense for this purpose because it is not compatible with all headphones/speakers. The other tabs listed should be good.
