I am trying to move away from my heavy laptop to a tablet. The only thing I use the laptop is for email, surfing the net, going on and commenting on fourms like City Data, and most importantly watching videos, including music videos on youtube as well as watching shows on Hulu. That's it. I don't need any office work done. Don't need to print anything. My wife has an Ipad, so I have been experimenting. I was on HGTV watching a show, but every time it played the commercials it would become stuck and I had a hard time getting to the next section of the show. The actual show played well and the sound was fine. Is this typical? Also, I noticed youtube would only give you a few videos and you need an ap to get everything on that site. But when I reviewed the aps they were filled with complaints.

My budget in around 300 dollars. Is there a better tablet for what I want than the Ipad, or would different video services like crackle be better on the Ipad?

I don't think it's a device issue, but rather the strength of your cellular data or WiFi internet source.

Possibly, but why does the show play well, just not the commercials?

Well I don't know the technicalities of it, but think it has to do with the bloated software in which some ads are
put. I've noticed the phenomenon and that it isn't always present. I've always thought if I had faster internet speeds that the problem wouldn't be there.

A while ago I decided to spend some money on Amazon Prime and Netflix: no ads! It's worth it to me to not waste the time on ads, which can be very annoying.

There are far too many variables to try and trouble shoot choppy video on a tablet.
The shows you are watching buffer much more content, then the ads get 'served' and they can vary every time so a new connection to an ad server is made.
It COULD be your internet connection, but I'm doubtful. Do you know what your home internet speed is?

For your budget I'd recommend:
Amazon.com : Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (10.1-Inch 16GB, White) : Computers & Accessories

You WANT to download the YouTube app on that or an iPad. This is not a drawback. Apps run beter on tablets then a webpage does for a service like that.

Thank you for the great info. I don't know what our home internet speed, but it's rather fast on the laptops. I am leaning towards an Ipad since the wife has one, but will certainly check out others. I can take for a long test drive the Ipad too, IF I can pull it away from the wife. Not knowing anything about them, I came on here to get advice and chose it. She loves it, and I can start to see why I could too.

DUMB question. How do I find the youtube ap to download to her Ipad? Is there a one time fee or a monthy one? Is there just one ap? I did not see it under aps, at least on her Ipad. Thank you for the help.

How old is the iPad? My iPad2 has started slowing down. A newer one will be needed soon. Your post says "iPad" but doesn't identify which version.
