I bought an ipad (thanks to recommendations on this board) last Summer. The $249 version.

It's mostly a back up to my laptop.

I've tried to install Skype to my Ipad (Skype for Apple) and and I'm asked for my Apple ID and password.

It works and then I'm asked to pay itunes to proceed.

Is there anyway around this?

It does not make sense.

I use Skype on my ASUS PC computer and my android phone for free.

Any help is appreciated.

You aren't paying for it, they just want you to have a card on file in case you do purchase something in the future. It's still free.

OK, thanks.

I'm assuming you mean the App store. I download free apps all the time and am asked to input my Apple ID to "pay" for the app, but there no actual charge. And yes, there is only one way to install apps on Apple products - though their platform.
