I am planning to open a Indian restaurant business near Market Street, Tallahassee, FL (near Atlanta Breads and Anthony's Wood Fire Grill in Market St. right by I-10)
I want your suggestions about location. For Example Market St. is right location for restaurant business (Indian) what brings to people in that location. How about lunch crowd (need offices, hospital, schools and universities). For dinner and weekend crowd (residence and demographics).

Please advise me if there is any good location in Tallahassee and is the right time to open business, and how about the job market in that area.
I have 15 years of experience in restaurant industry.

Regards
Raj

Raj starting your own business is always a gamble. Market Square is a great area, and heavily trafficked by people... I would say its a great location. Give it a shot. Before you open do your research and make sure you think you can make it.

A new Indian restaurant called the Curry Pot just opened a few weeks ago at Betton Place, and it seems to be doing well. I went there twice and thought it was excellent. I'm not sure how many Indian restaurants a city the size of Tallahassee will support. I think with the Curry Pot there are three now, all on the northeast side of town, if you call Apalachee Parkway the northeast. Market Square is heavily trafficked, in fact I avoid it for that reason -- parking can be difficult -- but it's not near hospitals, schools, or universities.

I hope you run a restaurant better than posting to a forum. 8^)

My guess is that it's more of a residential/weekend/evening crowd, although there are some nearby office complexes. That area does not have the university/student demographics.

I don't live in TLH, but I visit frequently -- I'm not sure how crowded that area gets around lunch time on a weekday.

Open a Coffee Shop/Bookstore type place. An Indian restaurant would do AWFUL on this side of town. Please, take your chance now, and don;t do it! I'm warning you!

IMO you can have either Lunch (downtown), Hospitals (just east of downtown), or Students (just west of downtown), but I don't see how you can serve all three. If you know how to serve true Indian Vegitarian dishes you will do well, but same ole same ole curry will not do well. Good luck.

But yeah, I really don't think you should open a Indian Restaurant on North East side of town. Don't try it, man.
