Ok..so the unthinkable happened. I just graduated with my bachelors/masters degrees from UF in May and my work just assigned me to Tallahassee for the next 3 years. I'm 23 years old and single, and after 5 years in Gainesville I am somewhat over the college town experience.

Any recommendations on where to live in the city? I'm trying to stay away from the keg parties overrun by freshmen and hoping to meet more mid 20's type young professionals if that exists in Tallahassee.

I'll be moving to the city in early December. Oh and I guess I'll be living alone since I don't really know anyone in the city, and I can afford up to $900 a month rent if that helps in determining an area. Thanks!

I recommend Club Lake Jackson! I love it! It's on Talquin Electric instead of city utilities which saves you money and it stays very quiet here. Rent is affordable. It is about 8minutes out of town up North Monroe, but the gas is well worth the apartment/utility cost.

The only other place I know of that is really nice because my friend lives there (and it's the same management) is Meridian Place. They have a HUGE apartment and the apartments are well-kept. It is more than mine because it's in town, but you get a lot of space for the price.

Meridian Place

Good luck! There are a lot of apartments and it's hard to filter through them! Took me forever to find this one.

I've been creeping around this forum for the past few months, as I will also be moving down to Tallahassee (in January) as a recent graduate starting a new job.

Ambitious: from reading an exhaustive list of different but great information from this forum, I've noticed that the neighborhoods SE and NE of Tally have been highlighted very favorably. As far suggestions towards properties, I find that www.apartmentratings.com offers some piece of mind on the reviews of certain locales. Granted, it may be heavily weighted by more negative comments, since a content person may not waste his/her time reviewing an "ok" place.

Imalith: I've noticed that you've discussed Talquin utilities in the another thread as well and I was wondering if you knew where the delineation between Talquin and Tally utilties lay? I've looked on the Talquin website, but to no avail. Any help to save 100's of dollars on utilties a year would be greatly appreciated.

Talquin is 0.09999 per kWh
City is 0.12318 per kWh

I am unsure on water, but I will give Talquin a call and/or check my bill prices when I get back to the house. I do know city has a lot more taxes on it. Moving from City to Talquin I am saving 150 monthly during the summer. I don't know how much winter will be yet, but with the minimum required payment on City being higher than Talquin as well I might dip down into the $40/month! I hope so!

You've probably made your move by now. But, you'll probably want to go north towards Killearn, check out the middle of town in the mid-town Betton Woods area. As a neat alternative, you could probably rent a carriage house (studio) apartment over somebody's backyard garage in Southwood. Be aware that many of the newer apartments in the area may have problems with shoddy construction and bugs. Good luck!
