been looking around casually at land listing in taylor county. it looks pretty nice and rural. makes me wonder about the possibilities for homesteading there on undeveloped land.

i guess my main concerns would be freedom from zoning authorities and staying away from swamp land.

I have always liked Taylor County, people I have met there are very self-reliant and you got to love the hunting and fishing. I would look north of Perry along 221, very pretty land and not wet like the high watertable piney flatwoods elsewhere.

I've always thought of Taylor County as the armpit of the state, both literally and figuratively.

But, to answer your question, look in the northern part of the county. Most, if not all, of the land along the US 19 corridor is swampland. Perry is the only incorporated place in the county and unincorporated land generally seems to have less zoning restrictions, so you might be in luck there.
